National Geographic Interactive Campaign

Where were you?

As the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 approaches, National Geographic Channel has

launched an interactive Facebook app, Remembering 9/11, where people can record where they were when the Twin Towers fell.

Developed with digital agency Neo-Pangea, the app will allow users to post brief accounts of their 9/11 experiences and mark their stories with location-specific tags to be featured on the interactive map. Users will be able to explore all posted anecdotes by location and filter stories to see their friends' stories and share comments.

The Coca Cola Friendship Machine

A great way to reinforce what Coke is all about.

Augmented Reality Advertising Takeover in Times Square

This just happened on Sunday.
The Public Ad Campaign was beta testing replacing the outdoor ads with artworks.

According to their blog, the video went viral before they even had a chance to release an "official" version. A much more extensive video will be released within the next week.

Their biggest obstacle? Changing the art as often as the ads change, which is about every week or so.

The Social Travel Revolution

Also, this just has a ton of useful information for reference:

This was the most interesting to me -

YouTube Head Tracking

This is neat - and it opens up a whole new scope of possibilities for interactive experiences using motion tracking technology. I think the campaign needs work from a User Experience standpoint (it's not very clear what you're supposed to do without reading about the campaign first) but the technology is pretty cool and the idea itself (Hugo Boss let's you see things differently) comes through in the execution.

Toronto is Trending

Here is CP+B's attempt to promote Toronto as a great place for tourism:

The great thing about this site is how it lets tourists see the city through the eyes of the locals, removing much of the confusion that accompanies a visit to a new place.

BMW X3 - The World's Longest Banner Ad

Rollover the banner ad on the right side of the page.

Copywriters, what do you think?

Personally, I skipped right to the bottom.

Arcade Fire - Wilderness Downtown

Seriously, enter the right address.

Chrome Musical Experience

http://designcollector.net/rome/

This aggregate website features a new project involving Google Chrome. You will need Chrome to check it out though.
Mind blowing interactivity and design... not to mention the music is pretty good.

Fun enough to make me think about buying it

A great game built by Google for the new Nexus phone. LINK

Social Media Preserving Endangered Languages

This isn't really related to interactive concepting, but I thought it was a cool idea of how the concept of social media can be used for a social good. I think some of the most successful ideas nowadays are contributing toward solving social problems and people are almost becoming accustomed to brands doing something to make the world a better place.

Welcome to Pine Point

A fascinating and hypnotic look at a town that once was. While not an ad campaign, it is an interesting use of interactivity on the web, allowing the viewers to click through and explore the world at their own pace. If you read the 'about this project' at the end, the creators explain how the idea was supposed to turn into a book, but felt more natural as an interactive website. It takes some time to fully explore the site, but the story is definitely an interesting tale that ends up being worth the time.

(If you click on the "interactive" tab at the top, you can check out some other interesting interactive pieces as well)

Connecting States of America Project

This is a really interesting look at how social interactions tie us together as a country.

Volkswagen Print Ad Test Drive

This is a great way of coupling the old (print) with the new (mobile apps). It is unlikely that they would be able to get as many people to come into the dealership to test drive the car than to download the app that simulates the new features. Words cannot express what augmented reality can.

Tesco Virtual Store

I'm sure some of you have already seen this, but for those that haven't - it's really cool. It's such a simple, innovative idea that solves their basic marketing problem of attracting more shoppers without building more stores.

(I can't get the link to work, so you may have to just copy and paste it into your browser. Yay technology!)

Digital Technology and Social Media Breathe New Life

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/nov/15/advertising-social-networking-digital-technology

I found this article really interesting... It links to a number of digital campaigns, including many that deliver strong social media innovations. It's amazing to me how far we can take technology. I feel as though almost anything you can think up - no matter how insane it might seem - can be done in some fashion. While a year ago, the concept of using Facebook as a useful advertising tool was big news, it now only scratches the surface.
Ok, OK! my last one this week. I just had to share this : After receiving one million ‘Likes’ on Facebook, Heineken decided to return the compliment one “Like” at a time. A team of “Heineken Huggers” ─sporting awesome t-shirts, may we add─ was sent out on the streets of Amsterdam and hugged every Heineken drinking person. Sucks to be the one guy drinking a Merlot for a change.

Animated Tattoo Campaign

Ballantine’s Scotch Whiskey is running an interesting social campaign celebrating people who leave an impression, unique people who challenge the status quo, and to do this, they’ve setup a series of live streaming events where the community can influence the creative outcomes of an artist in real time through comments and suggestions on Facebook.
One of the streaming events was this, the World’s First Animated Tattoo by artist K.A.R.L, created in real time, it integrated what looks to be a QR code, and after scanning, played an animated piece to complete the tattoo!

Reebok / The Promise Keeper

Squaring up to stiff competition from Nike+, Reebok launched The Promise Keeper app for iPhone and Android handsets. Through Forsman & Bodenfors in Stockholm, the app promotes Reebok's ZigTech running shoes and ties in with social media to help motivate runners. So if users complete a run, or fail to get off the sofa, videos are posted to their YouTube site either praising their efforts or lambasting their lack of dedication. Reebok has enlisted its paid athletes, including Amir Khan and Lewis Hamilton, to add a personal touch and help spread news of the app.
